It's My Birthday....

and we're gonna have a party....we're gonna party hearty!

Matt, Elizabeth and Zachary did a great job of spoiling me on my birthday! Matt surprised me by taking the day off of work! We got to spend the day together as a family...what could be a better gift!

Elizabeth made me a beautiful card and gave me my favorite candy bar...Hershey's Cookies and Chocolate. She even got me the king-size!

Zachary was so cute and got me a present too! He had the cutest look on his face while handing me my gift! Man...I love that kid! He gave me some yummy Twizzlers. It's a perfect gift because is it one of the few candies that we can share!

Matt spoiled me with a iPod Shuffle, a rotary cutter, and a temple recommend holder with a beautiful picture of the Salt Lake Temple.

Matt and the kids had one more surprise in store...cupcakes from the Sweet Tooth Fairy! Elizabeth was super-excited to sing Happy Birthday to me before devouring our yummy cupcakes.

My parents watched the kids in the evening so that Matt and I could enjoy a date night together. Matt took me to one of my favorite places...Smashburger. I love their hamburgers and fries! They even gave me a free shake since it was my birthday. After dinner we went to see Brave. It was a cute show...a little different...but cute!

My extended family did a great job of spoiling me too! I am one lucky girl to have so many people that love me! I got a Kohl's gift card from Uncle Bill, a new outfit from Meme, and spending money from my mom and dad and Matt's mom and dad. I cannot wait to go out and find something fun to get with my birthday money!

Thanks everyone for making my birthday so special. I am grateful that I was able to spend the day with many of the people that I love!

Booster Night at the Hogle Zoo

Tonight we were able to attend Booster Night at the Hogle Zoo. This night is reserved for the higher-end membership levels. In addition to staying open late, they have games and activities available. Since we are able to bring guests as part of our membership benefits, we invited Karla and Kelly to join us!

As we entered the Zoo, one of the first things we saw was this gorgeous peacock. He was presenting his beautiful feathers while strutting around. It was incredible. I don't think I have ever seen first-hand a peacock presenting it's feathers. We just stood mesmerized for a few minutes, enjoying the view, and taking portraits.

Next, we were off to Rocky Shores. Karla and Kelly have not had a chance to see it yet. We were super-excited to be able to show it to them! The sea lions were so active. They were swimming from end to end and jumping out of the water onto the land. We had so much fun standing there watching it all!

We also got to see the eagles.

It was a great night at the zoo because all of the animals were out and playful. The bears were even wandering around. Zachary was so excited and exclaimed, "Bear!" He wanted to make sure that each and every one of us saw them.

While in Rocky Shores, we found the cutest hat for Zachary. Karla and Kelly were so sweet and bought it for him. He looks so stinkin' cute in it...and best of all, he leaves it on!

Next, we headed over to Asian Highlands to see the tigers and giraffes. We were amazed to see that the tigers and giraffes were active too! They were walking around and seemed to come right up to us! It was such a fun experience!

On our way to the carousel, we came across this black swan. I don't ever remember seeing him before!

The kids each got a turn on the carousel. They absolutely loved it. Elizabeth is such a big girl and rode it all by herself! Zachary was lucky and got to ride on the carousel with Grandma!

Even the elephants were out and active. The mommy elephant was standing right by a viewpoint, drinking water. She would fill her trunk with water and then pour it into her mouth. Just as you thought her trunk was empty, she would spray a bunch of water out. Elizabeth and Zachary were thrilled and laughed each time that she did it!

Before too long, baby Zuri joined in on the action. Zuri came over and imitated her mom, filling her trunk, drinking, and spraying water! Too cute!

I love this photograph because the mommy elephant is chilling and crossing her back legs!

Elizabeth really wanted to see the monkeys, since we didn't get to last time. She let us know that the monkeys are her favorite and that she "would be so mad if she didn't get to see them!" Since we knew it meant so much to her, we made sure to see the monkeys this time!

On our way to the gift shop, we saw another peacock...and a really ugly turkey.

It wouldn't be a trip to the zoo without a stop at the gift shop. Elizabeth loves to walk the aisles looking at all of the fun things. Since Karla and Kelly purchased a hat for Zachary, they told Elizabeth that she could pick something out too! She was so excited and found this "poof ball hippopotamus".

I am so glad that we could get out and experience another night at the zoo. It is such a fun place to be, especially when Grandma and Grandpa come too! We had such a great night. I loved that all of the animals were out so that we could get a better look at each of them. I don't know about the kids...but I am already counting down until the next booster night in August.
