The Parade of Kings

Elizabeth and Zachary were selected from among their classmates to represent Neil Armstrong Academy during the Parade of Kings at tonight's Real Salt Lake Game. It was a little bit of hurry-up-and-wait at the beginning. We had to be at the game about 30 minutes early so that the kids could line up.

They were able to rush the field and greet the players as they entered the stadium. They also got to stand in a line at mid-field while they presented the American flag and sang the National Anthem.

I have never been so excited to see my little munchkins return. When I saw everyone running, I was sure that my little ones were going to get trampled! So grateful that it all worked out!

Next we headed to our seats to enjoy the game.

We had to take a selfie before we left!

We are grateful for this fun opportunity. I always love to spend time as a family. Tonight was extra special because we were able to enjoy something new and different. To top off a great night, the Real Monarchs won! Go Team!

Sunset Hills Fire Safety Day

One of our neighbors arranged for the West Valley Fire Department to visit our neighborhood this weekend. They discussed fire safety, demonstrated all of their fire equipment, and then through an epic water party!

Zachary was so excited to get to see the fire truck up-close. He got to tour the inside, sit in the captain's chair, and open a bunch of bins and compartments. He was in heaven!

Each of the kids received their very own fireman hat!

The fire truck that they brought for us to look at is a combination fire truck and ambulance. The center section opens up and their is a gurney with seats for passengers. The truck is fully stocked with all the medical equipment an ambulance usually has. It was interesting to see!

Zachary begged the firemen to put on their masks. For whatever reason, he really wanted to see the mask. Zachary was so excited when one of the fireman obliged.

My favorite part of the morning was when one of the firemen got dressed in all of their gear. They explained to the kids what each piece of the uniform was used for and the protection that it provided them. Then they made sure to emphasis that the children should not be afraid of them. They let the kids know that in an emergency they need to yell really loud, bang on whatever is near them, and come out from their hiding spots when they see a fireman. They then went from child to child giving high fives!

It made my heart swell with gratitude to know that these men and women go into dangerous situations each day to protect and help us!

Once the presentation was over, the real fun began. The firefighters hooked up the firetruck to a fire hydrant and let it rip! They sprayed water all over our neighborhood park and all of the kids squealed with delight as they got soaking wet!

I am grateful for such a fun morning. I really enjoyed learning more about what I can do to protect my family and my home. Plus Zachary had a blast touring the firetruck, meeting the fireman, and getting totally drenched!

Elizabeth's Back-to-School Blessing

Tomorrow is Elizabeth's first day of 3rd Grade, so we spent some time tonight getting ready. We packed her backpack and her lunch. Additionally, we gave her some advice for the upcoming year and Matt was able to give her a Father's Blessing. We gathered as a family in our loft and Matt was able to use the priesthood to provide Elizabeth with some advice and guidance straight from our Heavenly Father.

Some of the things mentioned in Elizabeth's blessing were...

• She will be able to find joy in school.
• She will be able to make decisions that Jesus would make. 
• She will be mindful of others.
• She will be able to calm her body and open her mind so that she will be ready to receive.
• She will be able to avoid dangerous situations and not succumb to peer pressure.
• She will have good health and will continue to grow and develop properly.
• She will be able to listen without distractions. 
• She will make friends and live the standards of the gospel. 
• She will be safe while away from home.
• She will be able to make friends easily.
• She will use her bright personality to lead others. 
• She will learn quickly, retain knowledge, and test well.
• She will be able to know right from wrong and will have the strength to stand up for her beliefs.

Also, Matt mentioned that since Elizabeth has now been baptized, she needs to remember that she represent Jesus. She needs to share all that she knows and she needs to help those that are in need. He reminded her that she now has the Holy Ghost with her and that the Holy Ghost can help her to remember the things that she has been taught. 

I am so grateful for my sweet Elizabeth. She has brought so much joy into my life. I am so excited for her to begin another year of school. I pray that she will develop a love of learning and that she will make new friends and better her relationships with her current friends. 

Class Lists

We have been anxiously awaiting today because it is the day that Neil Armstrong Academy announces the class lists for the upcoming school year. Elizabeth and Zachary have been so excited to find out who their teachers are, and which of their friends are in their class!

Zachary will be in Mrs. Rachel Sorensen's class. We are so excited to meet her and look forward to working closely with her this upcoming year. I have a feeling with all of Zachary's allergies and the constant communication that is needed, Mrs. Sorensen and I will become well-acquainted and hopefully, good friends!

Elizabeth will be in Miss Kacie O'Maley's class. Miss O'Maley is new to Neil Armstrong Academy this year. This means that we are not as familiar with her, but we cannot wait to meet and get to know her better.

We are super-excited for school to begin. Only 13 more days! Let the countdown begin!
