Last night...at 4:43am I heard Elizabeth cry. As I jumped from my bed, worried...because she usually sleeps through the night, I ran into Elizabeth's room. I was greeted with a happy-sounding "Mommy!". Elizabeth had the biggest grin on her face. As I picked her up, she started to sign "milk" and "cracker". We headed downstairs for a middle-of-the-night snack.
As Elizabeth snuggled with me, eating her Teddy Grahams and drinking her milk, all I could feel was gratitude. I love my sweet little baby girl. She is such a blessing in my life. She has made my world a better place. She fills my days (and nights!) with sunshine.
I will forever treasure this time with Elizabeth...even if it was at 4:43am.

There is no sweeter sound...
than Elizabeth saying "Mommy".
All day today, Elizabeth has been calling me "Mommy". For months Elizabeth has been calling me "Mama" until today when she made the switch to "Mommy". I haven't really noticed a difference between the two names...until I heard her say "Mommy" today. I got so excited. It sounds so much better. It is such a slight difference but it means the world to me.
I guess Elizabeth didn't want Matt to feel left out because she also started saying "Daddy" today. She has to think about it a little more...she pauses a little in the middle. She says "Da....De". It is the cutest thing.
Have I mentioned lately that I love my sweet baby girl?!

History in the making...
Today, Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States of America. It has been all over the news and was quite the occasion. I have never been interested in politics. I feel that most anybody will tell you what you want to hear...and then do whatever they want anyway. In the past, as I heard politicians speak...I would zone-out...but not with Barack Obama. Whenever he speaks...I find myself listening. I am unable to turn away. I think he is so well-spoken and passionate. He has a true talent of presenting. He is charasmatic and seems to be a man of the people.
Elizabeth and I were at home, and watched today's events unfold. I have never watch an Inaguaration before, so I cannot compare...but I think today's events were a success. I was very impressed with President Obama's speech. I feel a sense of confidence and determination when I hear him speak. I truly want him to success...our country depends on it.
I love how President Obama stressed the importance of everyone taking responsibility and everyone playing a role in getting our country out of the mess that we are in right now. He reminded us of where we have come from and that we are an amazing mixture of so many different cultures and peoples.
I love when he said...
"...They saw America as bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions; greater than all the differences of birth or wealth or faction.
This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions - that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."
I feel we do need to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and get to work. So many people talk and complain...just get to work. It is that simple. We, as Americans, are intelligent, creative, industrious, and passionate. Let's get to work!
President Obama ended his speech in such a beautiful way. He said...
"...At a moment when the outcome of our revolution was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the people:
"Let it be told to the future world...that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive...that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it]."
America. In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations."".
What touched me the most about the whole day's events, was a short moment in the afternoon parade. I loved how President and Mrs. Obama left the shelter and warmth of their vehicle to walk with and wave at the people that had been waiting for hours out in the cold. As they walked, Barack and Michelle Obama held hands and Michelle even snuggled into Barack's shoulder a couple of times.
Time and time again...I have been impressed with the husband and father that Barack Obama is. He has his priorities straight. He is a family man. He loves his wife and his kids. If he can lead this country with the intensity that he loves and leads his family...I know that he will do a great job.

These Boots are Made for Walking...
This past Fall, we went on a road trip to Estes Park, Colorado. While we were there, I saw these darling boots at one of the local shops. I immediately fell in love and had to have them. I tried to resist at first, but on our last day there...I went and got them! I am so glad that I did. Elizabeth looks absolutely adorable wearing them.
When we got home, I discovered that Elizabeth had this lil' cowgirl outfit that went perfect with the boots.
We don't know what Elizabeth is doing in this photograph but it is hilarious! Matt says she just needs a kissy face and she'd be doing a zoolander pose.

A Fun Little Project
I found the pattern for this great Newsboy Cap on Etsy. I have wanted to make a Newsboy style hat for Elizabeth for a while now. I was so excited to see how it was going to turn out. I think that this cap is so darling...and that Elizabeth looks adorable in it! Now the challenge is to convince Elizabeth to leave it on.
I am hoping to add a fun flower and a funky button!

Our New Obsession...
Matt received this game for Christmas...and it is so much fun! I have always enjoyed watching Matt play video games, but this one is so great! Not only can I watch him...I have even played a little. I die a million times, and it takes me forever to do anything...but I have so much fun doing it. The Little Sack Boy is customizable and so darling. I am glad that Matt and I are able to play together.
Twilight
So I finally joined the Twilight bandwagon.
One of my resolutions this year is to read more books. As I thought about the first book that I would like to read, Twilight came to mind. I have heard a lot about it from family and friends, as well as in the media. The Twilight movie was recently released, along with book number four. Since it seems to be such a phenomenon right now, I decided that I would give it a try...see what everyone is so excited about.
This is a different kind of a book for me. I usually read biographies. I'm not really a fiction kinda girl...but I will give it a try and see how it goes.

It cannot be...
My sweet little Elizabeth turns 21 months old today!
Elizabeth is getting to be such a big girl! She is more and more independent each day. She is around 24 pounds and currently wears size 6-12 month clothes...although they are starting to get a little short on her!
Currently, Elizabeth is obsessed with putting items in a container...and then taking them back out. It doesn't matter what the item is, or what the container is...she will stayed entertained for hours.
Her favorite toys right now are the Little Learning Purse she received from Uncle Bill and the Learning Piggy Bank she received from MeMe.
She still loves her baby, and has to sleep with her every night. She will share all of her other toys...but don't even think about touching her baby!
Elizabeth loves to be tickled. If you stop tickling her, she will lift up her shirt and tickle herself. She is one crazy girl. The easiest way to get her excited is to say the word "tickle". She gets a huge smile on her face.
Laughing is another one of Elizabeth's favorite things. Daddy and Grandma are so good at getting her to laugh that most of the time she ends up with the hiccups...poor girl.
She says more and more things every day. Just recently she started saying "tree", "bowl", "Diane", "Christmas", "Show", "Pablo", "Bye Bye" and "No No".
Elizabeth still loves the Backyardigans. Every morning she asks for a "oooowww" (which translates to show). If you pretend that you don't understand her, she starts dancing and pointing to the TV. Each time she sees Pablo (one of the characters) she says "Pabo".
She loves to climb and to jump. She is so proud of herself when she climbs into the highchair at Grandma's house. If you just mention the word "jump" she starts jumping all over the house. She is really good at it. Most of the time she gets around 3-4 inches of clearance and she hardly ever falls down!
Elizabeth still hates bows, headbands, and hats. She will not let me brush her hair...and if I manage to do it, she messes it all up again with her hand. What a little stink!
Another one of Elizabeth's obsessions is she loves to put her hands in her pockets. It doesn't matter if it is a coat, a sweater, her pants...she gets so excited when she puts her hands in her pockets.
Elizabeth also learned how to work a zipper. She is now enthralled with unzipping her coat and taking it off. Why oh why, did she have to learn how to do this in the middle of Winter?
Needless to say, Elizabeth is my world. I am so happy to be her mommy and I am so grateful that I get to stay home with her. It is so amazing to watch her learn and grow. There is no other place I'd rather be!

Oh, The Possibilities!
There is something about a new year. It seems like anything is possible, anything can happen...and that you can accomplish anything that you want. I love a new year!
When I was a child, I had a good friend named Crystal. Every year, Crystal and her family would sit down and create a list of things that wanted to accomplish during the year. They had this list written out and posted in their kitchen. Crystal's mom wanted to make sure that it was visible to the entire family...so they would all remember and would be able to work on them each day.
I have decided to create a similar list...and have decided to post it here. I will be checking the list often and will make it a priority to get as many of the items done as possible. Hopefully at the end of 2009 I will be able to look back and see how much we have accomplished.

Ho Ho was good to us!
Elizabeth received so many toys for Christmas this year. She is such a lucky girl to have so many people that love her so much. She certainly is spoiled!
The past couple of weeks have been cold and snowy outside, so we have stayed in and played with all of Elizabeth's new toys. She has so much fun pulling them all out and playing. She runs from one toy to the next.
One of Elizabeth's favorites is the Little People A to Z Learning Zoo. It has 26 animals...one for each letter of the alphabet. When you place an animal on a letter of the alphabet it will say the letter, the animal's name, or the sound the animal makes. Thanks Karla and Kelly...for this fun toy!
MeMe gave Elizabeth a Learning Piggy Bank. She loves to put the coins in the slot. This little guy will keep her entertained for hours!
Elizabeth gets so excited when she pushes the buttons and all of the cogs move and light up!
Elizabeth received this Baby Cinderella Doll from Karla and Kelly. I think that she has the cutest little face. Elizabeth loves to listen to the music box that she came with. Here Elizabeth is having her blow out the candle on the cupcake.
Elizabeth loves to talk on the phone, so we got her one for Christmas. I was afraid that she would call someone on our real phone, so I love that she uses her toy phone now. She walks around the house and really talks...it is the cutest thing I have ever seen!
Aunt Melanie, Samantha and Jordan got Elizabeth this push toy and she loves it. She pushes it all over the house and screams "Pop Pop"!
Papa got Elizabeth this remote control so that she would stop stealing his! She watches TV with her daddy all of the time! I love how she even holds the remote out towards the TV.
Elizabeth loves Babies! She cannot get enough of them. She walks around rocking them. She shares her bottle and her food with them. She is such a darling little mommy! For Christmas, Santa brought Elizabeth a whole set of baby accessories. She got a bassinet, a stroller, a car seat, as well as a diaper bag and all of the necessities.
Here Elizabeth is tucking her baby in for a nap. She makes sure that baby has a pillow, blanket, and her binkie.
Here baby is getting quite a ride in the stroller. Elizabeth decided to pull the stroller backwards while she ran full speed through our kitchen. Good thing baby was strapped in!
Uncle Bill gave Elizabeth this adorable little Learning Purse. It came with money, a lipstick, a mirror, keys, and a mirror. It sings songs and makes some really cute little sounds when you open and close it. Thanks, Uncle Bill!
Karla and Kelly gave Elizabeth this little magnet set. It is so cute. It has a few farm animals that you try to match. If you put two that don't match it sings a silly song. Elizabeth laughs and laughs while she is playing with this. If it starts to sing...she starts to dance all around the kitchen.

Resolutions for 2009...
1. Read More Books. For the past little while, I have seriously slacked on reading. Now that Elizabeth is a little more independent, I plan to read more books this upcoming year.
2. Scrapbook More. I have been blessed with my own scrapbooking space, loads of supplies, and a husband that takes amazing photographs...so I have decided to make an effort to scrapbook more during 2009. Ideally, I would love to create at least four 2-page layouts a month. We'll see how it goes!
3. Leave Comments On Blogs. I always enjoy when I log into my blog and there is a new comment waiting for me. I will try to comment more often on the blogs that I read.
4. Send Thank You Notes. I have not been very good at this for the past little while, but I really enjoyed it when I have done it in the past. I am going to work on sending thank you notes more often...and for simple things. To me...there is nothing better than receiving a handmade card in the mail that has a sweet little message inside!
5. Create Family Traditions. I love my family so much and enjoy spending time with them whenever I can. As I look back at my own life, many of the things that make me so happy were family traditions...things that you can look forward to each year. Many times, traditions revolve around the Christmas holiday...I plan to create a family tradition for each month of the year...a little something that we can do together.
6. Bake More. I think Matt is really going to enjoy this one. When I look in magazines, I always see these beautifully decorated spaces with these wonderful looking goodies. Matt does an amazing job of providing a beautiful space for us to live in...so it is my goal to spend time filling it with yummy goodies!
7. Learn To Sew. I have wanted to learn how to sew for years now. I get so excited thinking about all of the wonderful things that you can make with some fabric and a sewing machine. I think that there is no time like the present...so I plan to sign up for a local sewing class. Wish me luck!
8. Drink Less Soda. I did really good with this in the past...but since I stopped nursing Elizabeth, I have had soda like it is going out of style. I am not going to cut soda out completely...I will start by ordering a small soda when I go out...instead of the extra large 44 ouncer ;)
9. Eat Out Less. Matt and I have eaten out more than we probably should in the past. Part of it, is it is so fast and easy...with minimal mess, and part of it is I am a terrible cook. I intend to research recipes, learn cooking techniques, and to cook more for our family...hopefully I don't kill anyone!
10. Eat Better. I have been pretty lucky to be able to eat whatever I want and not gain much weight. I am close to my 30's now and I am just waiting for the pounds to add up. Instead of waiting, I'm going to try and prevent...smaller portions, less junk, more fruits and veggies, and dare I say it... drink milk.
11. Complain Less. I am so blessed. I have a wonderful husband, a healthy daughter, a beautiful home, and a supportive and loving extended family. We enjoy so many luxuries...cell phones, satellite TV, Tivo, and high-speed Internet...just to name a few. I have the amazing ability to stay home with my sweet baby girl. Truly life could not get any better!
12. Enjoy Family More. I am pretty good about making sure that Elizabeth has visited all of her extended family...but I could be better. Elizabeth has been blessed with wonderful family members that love her so much. She has 3 great-grandmas, 1 great-grandpa, 1 great-aunt, 2 grandmas, 2 grandpas, 4 uncles, 6 aunts, as well as numerous cousins. She is one lucky girl. I will make it a priority this upcoming year to get her to see as many of them as possible...as often as I can. I want Elizabeth to understand how blessed and loved she is!
13. Keep A Clean Home. There are turbulent times in the world right now. I believe that a home should be a place to escape all of the pressures and evils of the world. All family members should feel comfortable, safe, and accepted within the walls of their home. I make it my priority this upcoming year to create a safe, clean, and welcoming spirit in our home.
14. Try Digital Scrapbooking. When digital scrapbooking was introduced...I was not impressed. I enjoy all of the layers and textures that traditional scrapbooking allow. I love flipping through the pages of my scrapbook and did not receive the same satisfaction from clicking buttons on my mouse. I do not plan on abandoning traditional scrapbooking but I am interested in creating a few layouts with digital supplies.
15. Knit and Crochet More. In the past, I have made a habit of starting a project, then starting another one, and another, and another...until I have a bunch of projects going...and none complete. This upcoming year I will focus on completing projects that I begin. Hopefully, I will be able to complete one knitting and one crocheting project every month.
16. Reconnect With Old Friends. I have to admit that I am family-oriented...almost to a fault. My social calendar revolves around my family which does not leave much time for my friends. This upcoming year...I plan to be a better friend. I will reach out to those I have lost ties with and will try to reconnect.

10. Eat Better. I have been pretty lucky to be able to eat whatever I want and not gain much weight. I am close to my 30's now and I am just waiting for the pounds to add up. Instead of waiting, I'm going to try and prevent...smaller portions, less junk, more fruits and veggies, and dare I say it... drink milk.
11. Complain Less. I am so blessed. I have a wonderful husband, a healthy daughter, a beautiful home, and a supportive and loving extended family. We enjoy so many luxuries...cell phones, satellite TV, Tivo, and high-speed Internet...just to name a few. I have the amazing ability to stay home with my sweet baby girl. Truly life could not get any better!
12. Enjoy Family More. I am pretty good about making sure that Elizabeth has visited all of her extended family...but I could be better. Elizabeth has been blessed with wonderful family members that love her so much. She has 3 great-grandmas, 1 great-grandpa, 1 great-aunt, 2 grandmas, 2 grandpas, 4 uncles, 6 aunts, as well as numerous cousins. She is one lucky girl. I will make it a priority this upcoming year to get her to see as many of them as possible...as often as I can. I want Elizabeth to understand how blessed and loved she is!
13. Keep A Clean Home. There are turbulent times in the world right now. I believe that a home should be a place to escape all of the pressures and evils of the world. All family members should feel comfortable, safe, and accepted within the walls of their home. I make it my priority this upcoming year to create a safe, clean, and welcoming spirit in our home.
14. Try Digital Scrapbooking. When digital scrapbooking was introduced...I was not impressed. I enjoy all of the layers and textures that traditional scrapbooking allow. I love flipping through the pages of my scrapbook and did not receive the same satisfaction from clicking buttons on my mouse. I do not plan on abandoning traditional scrapbooking but I am interested in creating a few layouts with digital supplies.
15. Knit and Crochet More. In the past, I have made a habit of starting a project, then starting another one, and another, and another...until I have a bunch of projects going...and none complete. This upcoming year I will focus on completing projects that I begin. Hopefully, I will be able to complete one knitting and one crocheting project every month.
16. Reconnect With Old Friends. I have to admit that I am family-oriented...almost to a fault. My social calendar revolves around my family which does not leave much time for my friends. This upcoming year...I plan to be a better friend. I will reach out to those I have lost ties with and will try to reconnect.
