A Tender Moment with Zachary

Today Zachary threw a big temper tantrum when I told him no about something he wanted. He yelled at me and then stormed into his room.

About 20 minutes later, Zachary came over to me and said, "Mommy. Even when I yell at you, I still love you!".

Melt my heart. He is such a little sweetheart! I am grateful for tender moments like these!

Winterpalooza

Each year I take the kids to an event called Winterpalooza. It is hosted by The Utah Kids Club and is usually a ton of fun. This year, it was held in a smaller venue and was more crowded than usual. Even though it wasn't as good as it has been in the past, we still had fun especially because Grandma had joined us. The kids loved seeing all of the characters walking around.

Zachary was happy to meet Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Ironman, and even Tinkerbell.

Elizabeth got to meet Elsa, Tinkerbell, Cinderella, Sophia the First, and Rapunzel.

Elizabeth and Zachary got their hair done, got balloon animals, and even tattoos on their hands.

As we were walking around, Zachary started screaming, "I want my picture with Daddy's phone!" It took me a minute to figure out what he was talking about...Zachary wanted his photo with the Android. Daddy was so proud!

One of the highlights was getting to ride around on these electronic animal scooter-things. The kids loved that they could control the speed and steer in whatever direction they wanted to go! They both were begging me to buy them one!

Zachary was excited to find a Jedi and some Storm Troopers. He was even more excited when they let him hold a lightsaber. Again...Daddy was so proud!

We had fun even if it was a little chaotic. It is nice to have something to do inside while the weather is so nasty and cold. Good thing we have a year to recuperate before next years event!

The Hogle Zoo in Winter

Since there was no school today...and since it was a nice day outside, we decided to go explore the Hogle Zoo during the Winter. We have been to the Zoo numerous times; however, we have never been during the Winter. We have always heard that it is nice during the Winter because it is not as crowded and the animals are more active. Well, we discovered today that the zoo during Winter is incredible!

Zachary and Elizabeth looked absolutely darling all snuggled up in their coats and hats. Elizabeth informed me that this is her "sassy pose". Gotta love one hand on her hip and one hand under her chin.

We checked on the progress of the new African Savannah exhibit. They are getting closer and closer to getting it done. It is suppose to be completed in the Spring of 2014 and we are so excited. Elizabeth has been looking forward to the return of the zebras; while Zachary is excited for the train.

The Primate Forest was our first stop. The kids love watching all of the different kinds of monkeys. Today the monkeys were really active and kept climbing on everything and running all over their enclosure.

Zachary insisted that we go inside and look at all of the Great Apes. The Gorilla is Zachary's favorite and today he put on a good show. He was glaring at everyone through the large glass window and even, walked around on all fours. I would not want to run into a Gorilla in the wild...they are pretty scary!

Next it was off to the elephants.

Today we got a very different view of the elephants than we usually do. The entire time we were at the elephant exhibit and even when we stopped back by later, the elephants were facing away from the crowd so all we could see were their bums. Elizabeth and Zachary could not stop laughing.

We had a great time walking around, enjoying the sunshine. It was nice to be out of the house getting some fresh air. We were sick throughout most of December so it has been great to get out of the house.

Seriously, how did I get so lucky to call these two my munchkins. I could not love Elizabeth and Zachary more and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be home doing fun things with them. Being a stay-at-home mom is sometimes I hard...but I wouldn't trade it for anything!

A ride on the carousel was next.

Rocky Shores has become one of our favorite exhibits. We love watching the sea lions and the polar bear. However, today was a real treat because we got to see the otters. We NEVER get to see the otters. No matter what day or what time of day, we never have seen the otters....until today! They were so cute. We got to see them swim, walk around, wrestle with each other, and even eat.

The seals were super-active today. They were swimming around and barking really loud. Usually we just see them lounging around so it was nice to see them to active.

Elizabeth and Zachary make it a point to go and see the eagles because they know that Papa loves them. I am so grateful for the example that Papa is in their lives. They sure do love him!

We were surprised to see that the polar bear was sleeping in his enclosure. We thought that he would be loving all of this cold weather and that he would be partying...but I guess he was all partied out!

Elizabeth and Zachary are getting so big! I have taken quite a few photographs of them posing with these bear cut outs. It is fun to go back and look at how much they have grown and how much they have changed.

The kids love the giraffes and always get so excited to see them. Today, the giraffes were inside their building so we got an up-close look at them while they were eating. It was a fun change to see them this way!

Next we were off to the Asian Highlands to see all of the big cats! It was feeding time so most of the animals had taken their meals to the back of the enclosure to eat in peace and quiet.

We were so excited to see a group of peacocks, chickens and roosters walking around. The peacocks gave quite a show and spread their feathers and paraded around. It was pretty awesome!

I had such a great day with Elizabeth and Zachary. It was fun to have a day where it was just me and them. No school, no other kids, no distractions. I love that we had this time to enjoy a day together making fun memories.
