Zachary's Dermatologist Appointment

Today we headed back to the Southridge Clinic for another follow-up with Dr. Parker. Zachary's skin has been pretty dry, cracked, and irritated for the past few days so I was glad to have the opportunity to have Dr. Parker take a look.

Dr. Parker confirmed that Zachary has a severe case of eczema. I shared my concerns that it was causing him quite a bit of discomfort and that he seems to be itchy most of the time. I let her know that I feel so bad and wondered if there was anything else that I could be doing for him. I hate seeing Zachary itchy and miserable. Dr. Parker let me know that I was doing everything possible and that sometimes we have to just wait it out. Apparently, Zachary is at an age where eczema is usually the worst. She mentioned that, most of the time, eczema starts to decrease after age three.

Right now, our plan is to make Zachary as comfortable as possible while we wait it out. We are hoping that he'll improve during the Summer months, when there is usually more moisture in the air. We also have increased his dosage of Zyrtec from 1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon. I will be giving him Benadryl at night to help him sleep and to hopefully help him not be so itchy during the day. In case he has built up a little bit of a tolerance, we also switched around one of his ointments. We switched him from Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment 0.025% to Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment 0.1%.

I am really hoping that these small changes will make a huge difference!
