Field Trip to the Clark Planetarium

The first graders from Neil Armstrong Academy were able to take a field trip to the Clark Planetarium today...and lucky me got to go to! I am so grateful for the opportunity to participate and chaperon during this event. Since I was a chaperon, Elizabeth was able to pick her group...needless to say, she was thrilled to pick her two best friends.

Elizabeth, Katie, and Nori

We got to ride on a school bus to the planetarium. Elizabeth thought this was the coolest thing ever! Once at the planetarium, we sat in a circle around this large, floating globe and waited for the show to begin.

One of the planetarium staff taught us about the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon. We even got to learn a little bit about the other planets and how big each of them are compared to the Sun. It was very interesting. I learned that you can fit 1.3 million Earths inside the Sun!

Once the presentation was over, we were able to explore the planetarium for about 2 hours. It was fun to run around with Elizabeth and her friends. They did a great job of staying together and listening to me so it was a really relaxing and nice morning.

The kids loved this funnel activity. They had a great time sending coins down the ramp and watching them twirl down the funnel.

One thing that happened that was really awesome is that Elizabeth was finally able to feel a cloud. Last week, while we were driving in the car, Elizabeth asked me, "Mom. What does a cloud feel like?" I tried to describe the best I could and she seemed somewhat okay with my answer. However, today as we were walking through the planetarium, we discovered a whole display about cloud and how they are formed. During the presentation we  were given the opportunity to feel a cloud and Elizabeth was thrilled!

We ended our visit to the planetarium with a show in the Dome Theatre. We watched The Cardboard Rocket. It was a fun show about exploring the universe and the planets of our solar system. The kids were excited to sit back and watch the show on the dome-shaped ceiling. It was a very neat experience.

I am so glad that I was able to attend the field trip with Elizabeth. She loved having me there and I loved experiencing new things with her. I love my little girl and I am grateful for the fun memories that I got to make with her today!
