WestFest 2009

Each year, I look forward to the Westfest Celebration. It has been a tradition in my family for as long as I can remember. There is an carnival, a parade, concerts, and it ends with a big fireworks display. I have enjoyed sharing this tradition with Elizabeth.

This is Elizabeth's third Westfest. It is hard to believe that she has been a part of our family for that long. The first Westfest she attended was in 2007 and she was only a couple of months old. She sat on grandma's lap for the parade and probably had no idea what was going on. This year, Elizabeth was very interactive and excited. She would wave to all of the people and react to each of the parade floats. It amazes me to see the progression of just a couple of years.

The parade route passes right in front of my parent's house, so we always get a great seat. My dad sets up the lawn chairs early in the morning so that we can hold our spot. Elizabeth was so excited that she got to sit in her very own seat.

Elizabeth would start to shake with excitement each time she saw something new. She would point and squeal. As each float or band would pass, she would yell "Bye Bye" and "All Done".

Elizabeth was not a huge fan of the police cars and fire trucks. I don't think she liked all of the noise that their sirens made. My mom tried to explain to Elizabeth that we don't need to be scared because the policemen and firemen help people. Each time Elizabeth would hear another siren, she would whine and say "they help people".

With all of the noise, Elizabeth decided that it would be a little safer on grandma's lap.

After the parade was over, Elizabeth did not want to go inside. She kept saying "more more again"...like we would just say reset and have the parade start over. Too Funny! She just sat on Papa's lap waiting for the parade to come around again.

We ended the day with the fireworks show. It was fun to walk over to the park, with Elizabeth in her wagon. We set up blankets and watched the show. Elizabeth snuggled into my mom's arms and watched all of the "colors". She would say "ooohh" and "aaahhh" as each firework went off. Elizabeth really enjoyed the fireworks this year.

I am so happy that we have this fun tradition to share as a family.
